Jazz ensemble, score and parts. Style: swing. Solos: Tenor, Piano (written out).
If you want a chart that swings, this is it! This incredible arrangement by Quincy Jones of "Walk, Don't Run" was recorded by the great Count Basie Orchestra on their album Hits of the 50's & 60's - This Time By Basie. It is set as a medium-up swing and has amazing ensemble writing with very playable rhythms and ranges. There is solo space for tenor saxophone and piano (piano solo is written out). The arrangement culminates in a smokin' shout chorus (with drum solo fills) before taking it to the end. A must-have for your big band library! 5-4-4-4. Jazzn Ensemble Library Series, score & parts.
Here is one of the most tuneful of Jobim's many familiar Latin standards in a marvelous setting featuring a baritone sax soloist. The style is a laid-back Latin groove and Michael incorporates a wealth of creative harmonic and textural devices in this distinctive arrangement. Also included is a sax soli and a lush tutti ensemble chorus to round things out. Welcome to the Jungle - Guns 'N' Roses / Paul Murtha
Jazz ensemble library, score and parts, level 4.
Hailed as one of the greatest hard rock songs of all time, this 1987 hit from Guns N' Roses features familiar melodies and a relentless drive throughout. Paul's hard-hitting arrangement uses the saxes on the lead and brass on the signature riffs, along with terrific interplay within the ensemble. Rock the stage with this one! Well You Needn't - Thelonious Monk / Mike Kamuf

A shuffle at 166 BPM, this is a feature for two tenor saxes---not a duel, but a vehicle to showcase both your tenor players. Sample solos are provided, and the lead trumpet range is to written high C-sharp. Featuring a great sax soli and shout chorus, this is a very musical chart that is great for festivals. (6:26). Both lead and background vocal parts are also included, as are rhythm parts in two formats: a master rhythm part, plus the “essence of the groove,” featuring drum parts transcribed by master funk drummer David Garibaldi! Watch for more titles coming soon! What'd I Say - Charles Ray / Rick Stitzel
Young Jazz Ensemble Series. An up-tempo rockin' style, call-and-response playing, and hot horn riffs are all a part of this arrangement of the Ray Charles classic. The legend of Ray lives on through tunes like this that never seem to grow old.
What'll I Do? - Irving Berlin/ Mark Taylor
Young Jazz Ensemble, score and parts. Level 3.
Mark has taken this Irving Berlin favorite and crafted a marvelous setting for solo flugelhorn using a unique 3/4 samba feel. Beautifully supported by the ensemble, and all of the solo part is written out. Whiplash - Hank Levy / Erik Morales
Jazz ensemble, score and parts. Level 5: advanced / difficult.
Don Ellis and Hank Levy. Both are legendary for big band charts in odd meters. Whiplash is a super-exciting chart in 7/4 composed by Levy and arranged by Erik Morales. Don’t be intimidated by the meter---after a few minutes it feels quite natural and the students will totally eat it up. The melody is stated by 2nd trumpet and 1st alto with solo space for both with easy chord changes. Articulation is critical and the rhythm section may want to spend some quality time together. Lead trumpet range is to written D above the staff. This is a unique but very desirable chart to have in your library that you won’t regret playing. (4:58) Whisper Not - Benny Golson/ Vince Norman
Jazz Ensemble, score and parts. Intermediate level.
A great jazz standard recorded by countless jazz musicians, now give a listen to Vince's tasty arrangement.
